April Is Poetry Month!!!

Today begins poetry month!!! Poetry has always been a catharsis for me;-).  My favorite poet is the Honorable Ms. Maya Angelou.   

I would like to share a poem I wrote after a conversation I had with my daughter (age 4 at the time) while deployed to Iraq (05-06).

Like New  

"Hi Mommy!"

"Hi Gwenyth!" "How are you?"

"Mommy, when are you coming home?"

"I'll be home in the summertime."

"When is that?"

"When the flowers have bloomed and the grass is green."

"When you come home everything will be like new again, right Mommy?"

"That's right Gwenyth."

"I love you!"

"I love you too Mommy! o.k."

"O.k., Let me speak to your Daddy.........."

Online Audio Stories

I subscribe to "TheApple", "Where Teachers Meet and Learn" http://theapple.monster.com/.   While browsing in the "Teacher's Lounge", I found a cool website to reinterate my previous post "Read Aloud".  Children can listen to the classics being read aloud or download them to an ipod or MP3 player.  Check it out!

Read Aloud!

Our children enjoy when we read aloud to them.  Especially, when we change our voice for each character.  I happened upon these sites and found them richly informative for educators and parents:  www.literacyconnections.com and www.readaloud.org.

 

Reading aloud is important and can make a difference in children's lives!!
